LOISKIS Loiskis - Children's Music Orchestra
Loiskis is a professional children's music orchestra. The orchestra is based at Jyväskylä but it performs all around Finland. Loiskis takes high level children's music to schools, day-care centres and public events and festivals. Playing in Loiskis is a full-time job for the musicians in the orchestra.
The orchestra is maintained by the Loiskis Association whose main supporters are Ministery of Education, The city of Jyväskylä and the Rural Municipality of Jyväskylä and Municipality of Muurame. So far Loiskis is the only children's music orchestra in Finland that benefits public financial support. It is important that in the field of children's music there are groups that are independent of commercial aspects. It means that they can proceed on the conditions of quality.
This orchestra can take its performances where the children are: to schools and day-care centres, to suburbs as well as to more remote, small villages.
The Loiskis orchestra has 4 full-time musicians:
Tomi Nurmi/ Ville Ojanen (violin, tenor violin, mandolin, vocals)
Erkki Okkonen /Tony Elgland (double bass, electric bass, vocals)
Pekka Nättinen (electric and acoustic guitar, clarinet, buzuki, vocals)
The artistic director is Mr Pentti Rasinkangas. He also performs with Loiskis. His konserts can be performed also in svedish and estonian language.
Ms Arja Kautto is a full-time producer.
Loiskis performs both in its basic composition (4 musicians) and together with exelent soloists and visiting artists: composer, musician Mikko Perkoila, singer and actress Eija Ahvo, singer and performer Satu Sopanen, Klovn Dodo, actress Ilona Lehtoranta and dancers Noora Nenonen, Paju Becker and Anna Maria Häkkinen. This means that the orchestra's repertoire is wide. Both traditional and modern music is used in different productions.
The range of music of Loiskis is wide. The basic composition of the orchestra has thorough knowledge of different fields of folk music, jazz, rythm music and art music. Major part of the repertoire is new finnish children's music.
